About Jigsaw

Helping a child to make sense of the pieces.

Jigsaw evolved from thirty years of working with children in early years and school settings and a recognition that the need to play does not stop as we grow older.

Play should be an important part of our lives and supports our sense of safety, wellbeing and connection to others. The pressures we all face in a modern world are seen all too clearly in our children. Children don’t tell us they want to talk they will usually ask us to play with them instead.

When we experience challenges we can hopefully find someone to have a chat with. Children can’t always just open up to those closest to them so these unsettling and confusing feelings are often experienced by those around them through their behaviour. Children and young people can benefit from a creative outlet to help communicate how they are feeling. Play is a child’s natural medium for communication. Play Therapy supports children and young people to express these feelings in a safe and supportive environment.

Jigsaw offer support to children and young people and also to the adults involved in their care and development.

The Jigsaw ethos is…

that life isn’t easy for any of us and working with others to find out how all the pieces fit together will make the process easier.

Julie Burton, Jigsaw Founder

Setting up Jigsaw Play Therapy Ltd. over 7 years ago has enabled me to work towards my vision that children and their families and also schools and other professionals should have access to effective and bespoke therapy services. I have always believed that the one size fits all approach does not work and at the heart of our ethos at Jigsaw is that no child or family is a square peg to be pushed into a round hole.

Playing a key role in advocating and supporting the wider systems around a child through therapy, parental support and workshops is at the centre of what we do. We also offer clinical supervision, training and consultancy of professionals which helps support this vision.

I have been a Play Therapist, Trainer and Clinical Supervisor since 2007 and feel very lucky to do the work I do. Developing the team at Jigsaw was a natural next step for me and it is great to work closely with so many brilliant therapists. I love gardening and enjoy experiencing new things when travelling.

Jigsaw’s Equality and Diversity Vision

At Jigsaw we have made a strong commitment to our vision for equality, diversity and inclusion. We hope to support the development and establishment of processes to help achieve change. Through our interaction with families, professionals and as colleagues we will work hard to embed these responsibilities into our everyday life and working practices. This will enable us to embrace the diversity of all our clients and those that support them more effectively.
