Therapeutic Life Story Work

Helping a child to recognise who they are now, explore and discover about their past experiences and look to the future.

Life Story Work is an important and vital tool for children and young people who have been through the adoption process or who have been placed into the care system or under a Special Guardianship Order.  At Jigsaw we have therapists who are trained to creatively guide the child through this process in a safe and containing way. The focus of the work is to help a child to recognise who they are now, explore and discover about their past experiences and then look to the future. Reading of case files and discussions with those that know the child and can share their personal experience of the child forms a key part of the work.
At the end of the work the child is presented with a Life Story Book to share with their family when they are ready.

Therapeutic Life Story Work is usually offered as a block of sessions involving meetings, reading of files and the work with the child. We work at the childs pace and will engage in creative arts and play to ensure the work is at the child's level and capacity at each stage.

Often the Life Story Work has been offered in conjunction with a block of Play Therapy to provide the child with an outlet to explore any difficult feelings that may emerge.
