Play Therapy

Allows children get receive emotional support and help to understand more about their own feelings and thoughts.

Rather than having to talk about what is troubling them children use play and creative arts to communicate at their own pace within a safe therapy environment with a trained therapist alongside.

Play Therapy supports children in a variety of ways. Children in therapy receive trained support and help to understand more about their own feelings and thoughts. Sometimes they may reenact or play out traumatic life experiences to make sense of their past and cope better with their future. They may also learn how to manage present relationships and conflicts in more appropriate ways. Play forms the basis of the language used. There is no expectation that children will talk.

Amongst the team at Jigsaw, we have a number of Play Therapists who have been trained to a very high standard to deliver quality sessions with the children and young people referred into the service. The work will follow an Integrative Holistic Model which means a therapeutic toolkit is used in each session.

The work will be either non-directive or directive in its approach or a mixture of the two. Children lead the way, and the pace is set by them.

Referrals can be made by parents or wider professionals. Parent permission is needed before the work can begin. It is also possible for us to come into a school to offer individual, half day or whole day packages. We are happy to discuss these.

Play Therapy can also be offered to groups of children who have a similar referral need.

If you are interested in referring into the service or discussing the support, we can offer please contact us via the form.
